It 'just been released in India a new English translation of Indulekha , the first and most important novel in Malayalam, written by O. Chandu Menon in 1889.
Here is a brief summary, and for any further information on the novel refer to my post , referring to the English translation of Anitha Devasia published by Oxford University Press.
Indulekha is the story of two young educated, intelligent and modern ideas that you would like to marry, even if you put on your eyes for a rich Brahmin who wants to wife through a particular form of marriage contract in use at the time in Kerala.

The book, inspired by the novels of British custom, denouncing the hypocrisy of the feudal society of the time and male and is the novel that made a malayalam literary language (which is why I had improperly approached to Betrothed !).
The new translation, Premkumar, is actually "abridged": Some parts have been cut or rearranged, without which nothing gets lost soul of the original, and the result is much more readable for those not familiar with the world of late nineteenth century Kerala.
Although in general I'm always for the "building blocks" in their thoroughness, this time is the new version that I recommend to anyone who wants to bring to the world of Malayalam literature.

Not surprisingly, the introduction, the translator hopes that the new translation will bring new young readers to impassioned literature in Malayalam language, as well as Chandu Menon's novel was a new moon of hope for this lettaratura .
Indulekha, the name of the protagonist of the story, means "new moon", and is a moon shining with courage and grace.
