Touching My Moms Breasts

AIDS Sutra

In this anthology 16 Indian authors (or of Indian origin or similar) tell the many facets of the spread of AIDS in India, which initially denied, is now expanding with alarming rapidity.

The anthology has been produced in collaboration with Avahan , the draft of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (which I hear everything and its opposite) that deals with AIDS prevention in India.
There are 16 essays that bring us to know the different communities, the Most "high risk" in different regions of India, from Bangalore to Kolkata, Andhra Pradesh in Manipur.

Kiran Desai takes us to the villages of prostitutes in Andhra Pradesh (one of the states with the highest spread of AIDS), Salman Rushdie among hijras (say "trans" - simplifying a lot) of Bombay, Sunil Gangopadhyay in the brothels of Calcutta, where he took refuge with friends from young to drink whiskey on the sly, William Dalrymple between the Devadasi temple, Siddhartha Deb among the lost generation of Manipur, the drug addict, Vikram Seth Instead he spoke of his poetry in a man dying of AIDS.

The journey continues among the victims of AIDS in the community of truck drivers, in schools for children orphaned by AIDS among the infected home, in hospitals, including the police and his violent treatment of "sex workers" .

In most cases presented in this report, AIDS is a stigma to hide to avoid being excluded from society, which obviously contributes to its spread.
also follows the work of various NGOs that deal instead of the sick and preventing illness, certainly commendable and actually useful, but not sufficient for addressing a problem so vast and sneaky.

The anthology has its strengths and weaknesses of the anthologies are described in many different situations, with different registers (even if everyone in the journalistic style), with more or less empathy for persons described in (but not always no sentimentality), which contributes to the idea of a very multifaceted. Not clear however, in case anyone had expected, a thorough analysis of the AIDS problem in India, in addition to that proposed in the foreword by Amartya Sen.

One of the most interesting is to learn terminology (and all its facets) describing the complex world of sexuality, in a proliferation of terms, distinctions and acronomini: sex workers (not "prostitutes"), sex workers (MSW, Male Sex Worker), Men Who Have Sex with Other Men (MSM), gay, hijras , Kothi, panda ...

Perhaps the most important, however, is to try to raise the awareness of Indian citizens (the book was published originally in India at the Random House ) of this hidden evil, that even in the higher social classes tend to ignore.

Can Allergies Cause Dry Heaves?

Accept so [...] a kiss with all my heart in the solemn hour of Christmas, the most peaceful year, more mysterious, in which the desires are still oblivious to tend to the extreme and are heard to wonder: [...] leave any doubt misunderstanding at this time we have a place within us where we are simply children who are waiting and there, ever confident and confused, his right to a great joy that is Christmas.

Days and nights in the forest (Aranyer Din Ratri)

of Sunil Gangopadhyay

The films of Satyajit Ray Days and nights in the forest screened last week at the River to River happened to your bean, as I just finished a beautiful novel on which it was derived.

Days and nights in the forest ( Aranyer Din Ratri ), written in Bengali in 1968 and only now translated into English, is the second novel by Sunil Gangopadhyay, writer and poet in Bengal but osannatissimo little known in these parts.

Sunil Gangopadhyay was born in 1934 in a village that is now in Bangladesh and lives in Calcutta. He began primarily as a poet, founding the literary magazine Krittibas , but then also wrote dozens of novels, won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1985 for the historical novel Those days ( You Samay), and today is the Sahitya Akademi presitente (the famous Indian literary academy) .

Who was at the Turin Book Fair, will remember him for the literatures in Indian languages and recite his poems. Recently, his story has been translated into Italian for the anthology AIDS Sutra.

Days and nights in the forest recounts the adventures of four young men of Calcutta, in the sixties, in one of their joints and improvised aimlessly for a few days to escape from bourgeois life and the city.
The four friends find themselves alight at Dhalbhumgar, a small rural village inhabited by tribal peoples, including Bengal and Bihar, to occupy a bungalow in the forest and wandering through the markets, forests and liquor stores.

But despite the symbolic gesture of throwing the newspaper on arrival in the village, with glasses is the city's culture that the four players see and judge that the tribal world, vulnerable and hurt by your "civilization", not can help but eat eggs for breakfast, the beauty of sunsets remind them of the Western films, they are unable to cook for themselves and the meeting with two girls from Calcutta will cause them to slip back into their past.

The forest seems to be the ideal place to highlight the various social contradictions: the relationship between the tribals are never spontaneous, are always tainted by an unconscious sense of superiority of the four children, manifesting itself especially in dealing with women.
There is no communication between the city and the world of the forest, between the bourgeois and the tribal youth and their relationships always end up in an unpleasant manner.

For the four boys, between the alcoholic evenings and nights in the dark forest, the trip will be an exploration of their own fears, remorse, their darkest and most violent aspects, symbolized in the little wounds that emerge here and there like great drops of blood to be measured, each in its own way, with the ratio with one of the women encountered in the forest.

Compared to the film of Satyajit Ray, which illuminates the dark sides of the novel and makes it more light-hearted and comical characters, the novel is much darker and ambiguous.

And above all, art is: if the four are not for anything other than young Western sixties on the road, there are not too different-for one thing-a bunch of guys of our time on holiday in Interail.
modern, restless and alive.

Can Genital Scars Be Removed

December

channel is my favorite Christmas: Christmas tree, with all its twinkling lights that turn on and off. It inspires me a sense of peace and joy. The lighting is off, the silence in the house when others are already in bed, and the tree itself, majestic, rich, warm, concealing a quantity of packets exaggerated to me, for my, for my sister, My friends, my cousins.
It does this effect you too?

And then see houses lit by fanciful colors.
warm yellow and red, blue and green winter, white candidates that stand out even more in the cold and darkness of the twilight and the night below zero. The bells trilling on the tree, the wind that rustles the leaves of the eternal dotted silver and blue, the crescent moon shining and a little more under Jupiter shining, the frost that freezes the ground and bites her cheeks. The beauty
December is full of colors and expectations. It makes me feel good, makes me feel at peace.
Ah, the magic of Christmas!

Pizza LAMBRO 2224 m.

but very sunny day with strong wind from the north. We choose this climb for the protection we can provide the wood, the very steep final slope will evaluate the conditions in place if it is to be increased. I finally got to 50 meters from the summit but the conditions for narrowing of the channel did not promise anything so good turn around, we were also in many (24). For the rest
a nice ride with just enough snow for skiing and a crust is not too annoying.

Route on road to the Gotthard, exit at Fifth and left for Rhodes-Fiesso. Climb to Prato Leventina and then Dalpe. Park at the first bend to the left near a warehouse of excavators, q. 1206.

ascent route: follow the road that becomes dirt after Cleuro Prato and continues up to clashes q. 1638. Now go to the woods often Alpe Cadonigo q.1788 is clearly visible from where the rest of the trip. Continue south to the base of the steep gully that runs only in safe conditions to the peak.

Descent: the same route.

Gradient: 1020 meters.

Returning from the River to River, 2010

I am back from spending the weekend in Florence River to River, the beautiful festival of Indian cinema.

Very beautiful films of Satyajit Ray, the Bengali director is focusing this year on which the retrospective. For me, his masterpiece remains the Apu Trilogy, but the three films that I saw at the festival are equally memorable, too bad they can not see The chess players that will be screened on Wednesday.

The first of the three, Charul ( The lonely wife), is the story of Charu, a wife is always too lonely, devoted to reading and embroidery, which looks at the world with his binoculars from behind the window. The arrival of his cousin's husband subtly upset the family atmosphere and the dynamics between family members.

Jalsaghar ( The Music Room), the film that I was more excited, describes his passion for music of a landowner: even now his property is now falling apart, his family be destroyed and money, jewelry and silverware are not enough more to pay the expenses, let alone the musicians, it surrenders to changing times, until the end, until the last concert.

The last of the three films is Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest) , about the adventures and misadventures of four young men of Calcutta on vacation for a few days in a tribal village, "in the forest ", dealing with alcoholic evenings, contacts with local people and meetings with two modern girls of Calcutta.

Very interesting documentary Song of India by Vijay Singh on the history of independent India that is reflected in the songs of Bolloywood.

Very ironic Peeplo live, the film nominated for represent India at the Oscars 2011, which can handle a dramatic theme, the suicides of farmers in rural India, sarcastically describing with great bitterness the media, always aggressive, insensitive, greedy sensational front-page stories, and politics, unable to act, always ready to exploit and linked only to your interests.

also very nice animation for the tenth anniversary of the River to River (you can see below) and, as usual, very exciting meetings, coffees, lunches and dinners with other enthusiasts I hope to see you soon at the next opportunity.
