A path that repeats destinations in Tunisia have already seen but where it is always possible to discover new emotions.
16 campers, 38 people, 3 dogs: a group organized by Size adventure that is knit from the first meeting at the port of Genoa and all together have helped make this trip enjoyable.
31.12 Departure from La Goulette, the port of Tunis, where we landed the night before. A modern road link takes us on the highway and quickly arrive at El Jem where you must visit the amphitheater preserved and restored in an exemplary way, built by the Romans in the third century AD was the third in largest after the Roman Colosseum amphitheater of Capua. In the afternoon we move to Matmata where we arrive when it starts to get dark, the days are short in the months of December and January, we refer you to visit the next morning and greet the New Year with a dinner of Tunisian dishes in a local restaurant place. The presence of personnel of the local police stop us at midnight as is our custom. We must remember that we are an Islamic state and the use of alcohol is strictly forbidden, previously I had already happened to celebrate the new year in that space and we never had the company of police, with hindsight, and given what has happened now in Tunisia probably after we left the police were there to protect our safety.
However the evening was spent with music and dancing in joy and at the end everyone was able to drink in the privacy of your camper.
1:01 Busy day began with a visit to the cave houses of Matmata and then transfer to the south of Medenine and Tataouine gorfas to visit the Ksar Ouled Soltane, wonderfully preserved, then the villages Hills and Chenini Douret two jewels with their white mosque that stands out on the houses camouflaged and dug up a series of rocky terraces.
E 'already evening when, returning on our steps, we reach over Medenine Metameur where we parked our camper for the night in a beautiful gorfa dominated by the minaret of the local mosque, a unique experience.
2:01 A final look with the morning light of the gorfa Metameur and departure to Douz, the gateway to the desert. A stop at the village of Toujan to visit the Berber carpet weaving and for some photos, lunchtime we are camping in Douz. In the afternoon visit to the quaint town square with its souq square adorned with porticos, the place of all sorts of activities.
3:01 Today is the day of the desert: on board we venture off-road at the time of the 'oasis of Ksar Ghilane, an exhilarating experience dunes, sand without end, cover-ups and stops to walk and play in the desert.
Ksar Ghilane is an ancient fort which are now few remains that we can see from the jeep near the oasis, the true goal of our tour where a hot spring, surrounded by tamarisk trees, feeds a natural pool, ; in many dive for a swim in the desert. The few hours at our disposal to pass between a walk and a camel ride aboard quod then resume the way back, this time in a comfortable way asphalt in a couple of hours brings us back to Douz.
4:01 Destination mountain oasis: Chebika, and Tamerza Mides. First we need to cross the Chott el Jerid a place that is never the same, in reality, the Chott is a large salt lake with a depth ridiculous el ' appearance changes depending on the amount of water present, this year it rained so that the visible salt crust is incomplete. At other times the entire surface is devoid of water and appears as a vast desert, however, a dazzling white show always exciting.
passed through the Chott el Jerid and Chott el lined the Gars Chebika we are, from the old village you can enjoy a view on the "palm" and the desert to the border with Algeria. We cross the old village and arrive in a narrow gorge where a natural spring, and the pride of local feeds a perennial stream that provides water to the village and especially the palm grove.
few miles and we are the oasis of Mides where the main attraction is a deep canyon that you can walk and we are really on the Algerian border, you can see the stones that surround it. A Tamerza we stop for the night in a small parking lot just behind the city of palm groves. Even Tamerza is cut by a canyon where a stream generating some waterfalls that the group visit while I remain in camper for a boring feverish influence it will only trip over.
5:01 Crossing the mining area Redeyef Metloui where we come to participate in the excursion by train "Lezard Rouge", a train built in 1910 and restored for the tourist service along the gorge of 'oued Seldja up to the phosphate mines. After lunch, reached in a short Tozeur, once placed in the campsite, we made a visit to the city of palm trees and a nice board horse-drawn carriages.
6:01 A good road leads us to where we Sbeitla awaits the visit of the Roman site of Sufetula and continue up to Kairouan, one of the seven holy cities of Islam. That same evening, the campers placed in the garden of the Hotel Continental, we take a tour of the medina at dusk with the inevitable carpet cooperative based in the "Maison du Gouverneur, a beautiful 18th century former palace residence of the Pasha of Kairouan.
7:01 Tour of the Great Mosque of Kairouan starting from which one can only access the courtyard with the marble floor and surrounded by an imposing portico on which overlook the wooden doors of the prayer hall from which you can admire the interior. The visit is Bir Barouta then continued with an ancient well which was built around the building that houses it, an 'interesting ride in the medina dedicated to the food market and for a last visit to the mosque of "The Barber". A quick ride on the highway leads us, in the early afternoon, in Tunis, where we stop in the comfortable parking on Avenue Mohammed V. 8:01
now feels in the air when you leave each participant devotes a few hours left to visit Tunis to suit your preference and we are again at dusk in La Goulette, customs operations, loading and departure of the ship with the usual hours late. The next day
on board the ship which takes us back in Italy we know of the "Revolt of Jasmine" in which we have not been involved for a few hours.
