Journey Back in Moscow in camper made in July 2005 to lead a group of campers organized by ILGIROCAMPER ".
was 1977 my first time in Russia with the camper, even a small column consisting of three caravans and two vans. It was the USSR, the organization had asked for 8 months of work, road maps reported only way by which we had obtained permission to move, we were consistently and fairly applied by police, was another time and another way to travel .
Today is sufficient support from a good tour operator and select the departure date and what you want to see.
It 's the July of 2005, this time we have 15 campers, proven
iamo all over Italy, we meet in Tarvisio and friends shortly after we rehearsed, we're all nice effort campers. The excellent
Austrian motorways and Slovak, Polish roads, many rebuilt, others in rebuilding and, finally, good roads and a low traffic of the three Baltic republics allow us to reach Rezekne (Estonia) in 5 days with comfortable stages.
Rezekne is a small town with no particular interest but has an excellent central parking and a well-stocked shopping center.
The next day begins Russia (now Russia) is pointing directly to Moscow is a long tedious journey, made in two days, more than seven hundred miles of almost straight road, the only thing to keep alive the attention of all the tour is the succession of large and small holes for most of the path until you reach a few kilometers from Moscow, where the highway begins, unprotected and with a considerable traffic, the vanguard of what lies ahead in the capital.
Moscow, a megacity with 14.5 million inhabitants (compared to 7.5 in 1977), the first impact is shocking, the motorways are 3 ring, traffic is nothing short of chaotic although the main roads are very wide with some 4 or 5 lanes in each direction. Until we cross the parking lot with a column of 15 campers is not a game, but with the help of our guide, met before the city, and the skill and attention of the participants all obstacles have been eliminated.
The successive four days, accompanied by our guide and interpreter on board a comfortable bus, we have dedicated to visiting the city. First, the Kremlin and Red Square, a huge crowd in 1977, neatly lined up waiting to enter the mausoleum to pay homage to Lenin (the father of the country), now the people that visit was so short that it is difficult to do row. The Cre
Mlino, with its cathedrals, towers, Tsar of the guns, the Tsarina of bells, the bell tower of Ivan the Great and his palaces worth a long visit.
Strolling along the western wall of the Kremlin we have witnessed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and then cross the main gate of Resurrection we entered the Red Square, 400 meters long and 150 wide, with the superb St Basil's Cathedral as a backdrop, much less obvious but very beautiful and interesting is the Kazan Cathedral on the opposite side of the square.
More on Red Square, opposite the Kremlin walls, stands the huge palace built in the nineteenth century that houses the GUM department store with over Negozi.Prima 1000, I remember, were regularly HOLDING of basic necessities and thousands of people from more distant republics lined up waiting for a few supplies, creating a spot of color remember the unspeakable and vending machines of water (1 COPEC) with a glass cup, always the same, to customers. Today, the GUM is a place crowded with tourists and wealthy people and the shops are full of Russian and imported them stand out among the Benetton, Faietti, Valentino, etc.. There are also some nice restaurants and quaint with a merry band of which was granted a refreshing break.
Even in Moscow, we visited the Cathedral of the modern Christ the Saviour in Moscow by far the largest (28 years ago does not even exist on the project and in its place was a huge swimming pool, the largest in the world, it is obvious we are in Russia!), the Pushkin Museum, where it is features the famous Treasure of Priam, the Arbat, a pedestrian area 125 meters long where a succession of souvenir shops, art galleries, and restaurants where musicians, street vendors and street artists have accompanied us in the walk.
still deserves a mention the subway ride, always made with our trusty guide, to visit the stations Piubello known for its sumptuous decor. And finally a boat trip on the Moskova, disturbed by the rain.
leave Moscow, always accompanied by our guide-interpreter, going east to begin around the Golden Ring and this is something new for me: then the only possible route was Moscow - Novgorod - Leningrad (St Petersburg) return.
the Golden Ring cities do not have anything international, all signs and road signs are in Cyrillic, people groped for more time to exchange a few words, you make purchases in local markets, in short, you are immersed in the true Russia.
The first stage includes a stop in Vladimir, the door of the Ring d 'Oro, with the visit of the Cathedral of the Assumption and continue at a time of Suzdal. This beautiful city is known as the "city of a hundred churches", in fact it is rich in ancient monasteries, churches and monasteries and landscapes are rich in gold and blue domes.
Other attractions are the "isbas" wooden houses painted in pastel colors and the jambs and the eaves of carved wood painted white, a sight worth tens of photos.
Suzdal Kremlin also has a remarkable we visited and the walls of which are home to a nice restaurant to serve more than a typical meal has also entertained with a performance of ballet.
The next day, stopping to go to Yaroslavl Kostroma. The road is in bad conditions.
In Kostroma, a city of our guide, we visited the picturesque market in the center of the city and the monastery of Sant'Ipazio, outside the monastery which is the tourist attraction of the city there are numerous stalls selling clothing and linen at affordable prices everyone has shopped.
In the evening we arrive in Yaroslavl, and our tour operator has done a miracle to set up a picnic area in the courtyard of the tax office with water, electricity and even a drain.
is Yaroslavl on the Volga River to the confluence with the Kotorsol and was founded by Prince Yaroslavl the year 1000. We will
uniquely situated the church of Prophet Elijah, the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and the Kremlin then a long walk on the banks of the Volga led us to the pier where we took a cruise on the River.
We followed the classic route through the Golden Ring Rostov and Pereslavl until Sergyey Posad, this is the holy city of Russia built around the Trinity Monastery of St. Sergius and is also the seat of Russian Orthodoxy as it is was called "Russian Vatican". It is worth making, as we have done a thorough visit to soak in the reality of the Orthodox world in fact, this monastery is visited by many Russians who come here to pray in the cradle of their religion. Inside the monastery, we could see two and two churches and cathedrals where the Sacristy houses a rich treasure accumulated by the foundation to date with the donations from kings and powerful.
After five days of peaceful life in the Russian province back to the turbulent region of Moscow and go up north on the M10 Green undoubtedly the busiest road as we traveled, the floor is good considering the heavy, really heavy on this road may be moved the "road trains (trucks with two trailers). A
Novgorod hosted us Inturist the courtyard of the Hotel and the next morning was devoted to visiting the city, the cradle of history russa.Una strong tourist city, where the traveler feels at ease and easily find directions and maps in English.
The Kremlin is not without the most interesting part of the cathedral of St. Sophia, where you can admire a rich collection of icons and the nearby Monument to the Millennium of Russia, a huge circular
and bronze monument built in the middle of 1800 on the top there are two female figures representing Russia and the Orthodox Church and all around, the ride is a must, all the characters are portrayed that made Russia great in the political, religious, Literature and Art. Here
characteristic Russian style with a tower of the Kremlin has been transformed into a charming restaurant where it was once again organized a pleasant convivial.
Beyond the Kremlin, crossing the river Volkhov with a modern bridge, we visited the market district to the portico overlooking the riverfront.
200 kilometers and we are still in St. Petersburg, the diary continues on the post dedicated to this city.
